President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that those who previously received one-bedroom apartments under a government housing scheme can now apply for other housing schemes.
In a community meeting with residents of Galolhu ward of Male’ City, the President said the current regulations restrict one-bedroom recipients from applying for other housing schemes. While this is a concern for many, the government has now decided to amend the policy such that they can apply for three-bedroom flats. The change was brought in line with the people’s wishes, he stated. Shortlisted applicants can give up their current apartments for a three-bedroom flat, he explained.
Many families face challenges due to increased household size and the difficulty of living in one-bedroom apartments. While housing remains a major problem throughout the country, the government is implementing several projects to address the issue across the country.
