Fisheries minister pledges to work with fishermen and deliver results

Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam has stated that the government will work with fishermen to resolve their concerns and produce results.

The Minister made the remarks in an interview with the media after listening to the concerns of fishermen that focus on yellowfin tuna.

Minister Shiyam highlighted that fishermen are fully cooperating with the government, which makes it easier to address their issues. He affirmed that the Maldivian government will attend to fishermen and protect their interests, fulfilling promises made in President Mohamed Muizzu’s manifesto.

Highlighting key concerns faced by fishermen, the Minister noted the delay in payment for fish purchased by private companies and lack of affordable fuel for fishing operations. He noted the solutions offered by the government, including building processing facilities to enable direct purchase of fish, and establishing affordable fuel stations in every atoll by March next year.
