Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Thursday announced that Malé road regeneration project would begin after Eid al-Adha holidays.
According to the Ministry, the project, funded by the Government, seeks to alleviate difficulties faced due to damaged-roads and flooding caused by heavy rains. It is the first road redevelopment project undertaken in Malé, following the road surfacing project carried out in the early 1980s.
Dr. Muizzu said the project would see the resurfacing of 11 roads, but would not include Bodu Thakurufaanu Magu. “The redevelopment and asphalt-surfacing project of Bodu Thakurufaanu Magu is carried out separately”, he said.
According to the Ministry, the first phase of the Malé road regeneration project would see resurfacing of Majeedhee Magu, Ameenee Magu, Kambaa Aisaa Rani Hingun, Chaandhanee Magu, Orchid Magu, Lonuziyaaraiiy Magu, Haveeree Hingun, Handhuvaree Hingun, Ameeru Ahmed Magu, Buruzu Magu and Izzuddin Magu. “Work will first commence on Majeedhee Magu on September 18”, Dr. Muizzu said.
The project, which also includes the installation of fire hydrants along the redeveloped roads, is undertaken by the Public Works Services of the Housing Ministry.
