NDMA - PSM join forces to boost disaster awareness

In response to the rising toll of natural disasters, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Public Service Media (PSM) have signed a landmark agreement to enhance public awareness and minimise damage.

The partnership aims to disseminate critical information to communities, empowering them with knowledge to mitigate disaster risks.

Speaking after the signing ceremony, NDMA Chief Executive Hisan Hassan emphasised the urgency of public education, citing a 67 percent increase in disaster relief costs.

"Raising awareness is key to reducing harm," he stated, pledging that collaborative efforts with PSM will ensure vital guidance reaches citizens.

PSM Managing Director Ahmed Shakeeb affirmed the state broadcaster’s commitment, calling the agreement a crucial step in safeguarding communities.

"PSM views this as our duty—delivering timely, life-saving information," he said, highlighting plans for real-time disaster updates and special coverage during National Unity Day.

The agreement, signed at PSM’s headquarters, marks a unified push to strengthen national resilience through media-driven public engagement.
