MNU celebrates 43 years of higher education

Dr. Ali Fawaz Shareef, Vice Chancellor of Maldives National University (MNU), Wednesday evening revealed aims to make MNU one of the leading institutions in the South Asia region.

He was speaking at a function held to mark the 43rd anniversary since the Government began providing higher education opportunities.

“The university seeks to provide quality education, and aims to open the university for study visits”, he said.

The first higher education training programme conducted by the Government was held in 1973, to train community health workers at the Allied Health Services Training Institute.  

Since then, the country’s higher education sector has progressed, resulting in the establishment of the MNU in 2011.

It now offers 182 different higher education programmes, including PhD. programmes and has research capabilities.

A total of 2,022 students graduated from the university this year, which is currently conducting long-term programmes to over 6,000 students and short term courses to over 3,000.\
