Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) on Wednesday announced plans to establish a workshop in Thilafushi Island, Kaafu Atoll, to provide training for electricians and engineers.
Mohamed Junaid, CEO of MPL, said the workshop would offer training opportunities to the company staff and others. He also revealed plans to offer training programmes to young people in collaboration with a foreign university.
MPL has also commenced work to develop a harbour in Thilafushi, and the company is planning to develop a slipway in the island in the near future. “The planned projects in Thilafushi will commence within two months and are expected to create hundred new jobs,” Junaid said.
According to MPL these projects include development of a water purification plant, construction of a staff accommodation block and facilities for introduction of ferry service between Thilafushi and Malé.
