The Public Health Conference 2025 has concluded with discussions on the challenges faced by migrants in the Maldives in accessing healthcare.
The conference, jointly organised by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and the Maldives National University (MNU) kicked off on 8 November. Over two days, participants examined barriers to healthcare delivery for foreigners in the Maldives, challenges in implementing the National Migrant Health Policy, and possible strategic solutions through inter-institutional collaboration. The event was attended by more than 100 participants, including around 50 representatives from provincial hospitals, as well as government bodies, private companies, associations, and health professionals.
At the closing ceremony, Minister of Health, Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim launched two new vaccines for the domestic market, the pneumococcal vaccine and the rotavirus vaccine, both of which will be available from 10 December.
The conference was sponsored by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the SAARC Development Fund and the World Health Organisation (WHO).
