The Maldivian government has handed over a donation of USD 50,000 in aid to the Sri Lankan government to recover from the damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
On 29 November, the Maldivian government announced that it would donate USD 50,000 and 25,000 cases of canned tuna to Sri Lanka. The cash assistance was handed over to the Sri Lankan government on 2 December by Maldivian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Mas’ood Imad, and received by Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijatha Herath.
The Maldivian Foreign Ministry said the gesture is a demonstration of solidarity with Sri Lanka. The Maldives hopes that the donation will contribute towards the efforts of the Government of Sri Lanka, to assist those affected, reflecting the deep commitment to the close bonds shared between the two nations and their people, the Ministry had said.
In a post shared on social media thanking the Maldives for its assistance, the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister said the island nation is grateful to the people of Maldives for their solidarity, and said it reflects the strong friendship between both nations.
