Seafarers urged to exercise caution

Maldives Metrological Service on Monday urged seafarers to exercise caution as severe weather is expected in most parts of the country for the next two days.

Authorities advised seafarers to follow safety regulations and check the weather forecast before setting off on journeys.

The Met office said scattered rain with isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected over the country.

It said that surface winds will vary between South-west/westerly 10 to 20 miles per hour in southern atolls and west/north-westerly 15 to 25 miles per hour elsewhere.

Winds may gust 45 to 50 miles per hour during showers, it said.

The weather office said that seas are expected to be generally rough with tidal waves also expected to some islands during high tide periods.
