Attorney General Mohamed Anil on Monday announced that the National Human Rights Action Plan will be implemented in December.
Speaking at the inauguration of a workshop on the draft action plan held Monday, he stressed that the government accords high priority to ensuring the protection of human rights, and urged all relevant institutions to ensure the effective implementation of the action plan.
He called for strengthening inter-agency cooperation in matters related to human rights, and to ensure the participation of the general public in efforts to promote and protect human rights.
The action plan was formulated by a special committee constituted by the Attorney General’s Office, with the support of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
Speaking at the function, Senior State Attorney Shafee’a Riza said the five-year action plan sets a road map that will ensure the protection of human rights in the country.
The workshop held Monday was focused on seeking opinion from all relevant authorities on the draft action plan.
