Stranded Maldivians in Sri Lanka Advised to Contact High Commission

The Maldivian High Commission in Sri Lanka has urged any Maldivians stranded at Sri Lankan airports to contact the High Commission via its hotline and share information.

The extreme weather conditions Sri Lanka is currently facing have caused significant disruption to air traffic. The High Commission has advised passengers travelling from the Maldives to Sri Lanka to check with their respective airline for the latest information before heading to the airport.

According to the High Commission, air travel has been severely affected due to the adverse weather and the declaration of a state of emergency in Sri Lanka. This has caused severe disruption to transit flights between Sri Lanka and the Maldives, leaving a large number of Maldivians stranded at airports. While High Commission teams have visited airports to assess the situation on the ground, those stranded are asked to contact the High Commission’s hotline at + 94768816666.

The High Commission added that it is in ongoing talks with airlines, which are arranging flights as the weather conditions permit. Therefore, passengers are advised to practice patience and follow airline instructions during this difficult time, and notify the High Commission immediately if any assistance is required.

The High Commission noted that while it had not received any reports regarding basic needs such as food and shelter, hotels are very full, making it difficult for airlines to accommodate passengers.

All Maldivians in Sri Lanka are urged to inform the High Commission if they require any support.
