MIRA conducts Green Tax orientation sessions

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) on Saturday began conducting Green Tax orientation and information sessions for guesthouse operators.

According to an amendment to the Tourism Act passed by Parliament in June, Green Tax will be levied on tourists staying at guesthouses starting October 1, 2016.

Teams from the authority are currently visiting islands with high concentration of guesthouses to conduct the sessions.

Information sessions will be held at SHE building in Malé Sunday, and those wishing to attend can register through its website, MIRA said.

The Green Tax is payable at the rate of US$3 per tourist per day of stay at guesthouses operated in the Maldives.
