President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has signalled his support for the Palestinian people by acquiring a commemorative platinum ticket for a friendly football match between the Maldives and Palestine under-17 national teams. The gesture, described by the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) as emblematic of President Muizzu’s solidarity, forms part of a broader governmental initiative to extend humanitarian and developmental assistance to Palestine.
The ticket, issued for the first of two scheduled fixtures, was presented to President Muizzu by FAM President Ahmed Thariq during a formal handover ceremony. A separate commemorative souvenir was also conferred. FAM noted that the act reflects the president’s sustained commitment to the Palestinian cause and the seriousness with which he regards the ongoing crisis.
The matches, to be held over two evenings, stem from a special initiative led by President Muizzu, who facilitated the Palestinian team’s training camp in the Maldives. FAM highlighted his consistent advocacy for Palestinian rights on the international stage and his active role in mobilising support.
Serving a dual purpose, the event also functions as a fundraising effort. The government has encouraged public participation through the purchase of limited-edition souvenir tickets, with all proceeds directed to the Palestine Football Association. The funds are intended to support the revival and development of football in Palestine, where infrastructure has been severely impacted by war and genocide committed by the Israeli occupational forces.
Two ticket categories have been introduced: the Souvenir Platinum ticket, priced at USD 64.86, grants access to the VVIP Rostrum and is limited to 50 units; the Souvenir Gold ticket, priced at USD 32.43, includes VIP seating, with 200 tickets available.
While the souvenir tickets are central to the fundraising initiative, FAM has confirmed that general admission to both matches will remain free of charge. Members of the public will be granted complimentary access to field-level and general stand seating.
