President Pledges Non-Discriminatory Development for Mundoo, Commits to Harbour Project Next Year

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured the residents of Mundoo, Laamu Atoll, that their critical infrastructure needs, particularly the island’s harbour constraints, will be addressed with urgency, committing to allocate funds for the project in next year’s state budget.

Speaking at a consultation meeting with the community during his visit to the island on Tuesday, as part of his ongoing tour of the inhabited islands in Laamu Atoll, President Dr Muizzu stressed that his administration operates under a policy of non-discriminatory development, ensuring that vital projects are carried out even in islands with small populations.

Highlighting the harbour as the most important project for the future development of Mundoo, the President confirmed that a specific budget allocation would be made to address the issue immediately.

“I know the people of this island need a harbour the most. So we will facilitate a solution to this in next year's budget,” he said, providing the residents with a concrete timeline for resolution.

In addition to the infrastructure overhaul, the President announced major improvements to social services. He promised that the space constraints currently facing Mundoo School would be resolved, with the facility slated for air-conditioning before the commencement of the next academic year.

Additionally, the President indicated that health services would be expanded, including the establishment of new laboratory facilities, as part of the broader national effort to decentralise specialised healthcare.

The visit also included ceremonial activities aimed at improving local services and security. President Dr Muizzu officially inaugurated the new Bank of Maldives (BML) ATM in Mundoo and participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the development of a new police station building on the island.
