The Maldives has welcomed more than 1.7 million international visitors so far this year, a milestone that signals a robust rebound for the nation’s tourism sector. The figure marks a 10 percent increase over the same period in 2024, according to data released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.
As of 11 October, the total number of arrivals stood at 1,701,785, compared with 1,546,319 during the equivalent period last year. The pace of growth has remained strong into October, with 65,296 tourists recorded in the first 11 days of the month, up 20 percent from the 54,292 arrivals during the same window in 2024.
China remains as the Maldives’ leading source market, contributing 279,690 visitors to date. Russia ranks second with 208,329 arrivals, followed by the United Kingdom (149,424), Germany (120,922), and Italy (106,230). These figures highlight the continued importance of both Asia-Pacific and European markets in sustaining the country’s tourism-driven economy.
The government has set a target of 2.3 million tourist arrivals for the year. With more than 1.7 million already recorded, the Maldives must attract an additional 598,215 visitors in the remaining months to meet that goal.
