First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has emphasised the importance of creating an environment where girls’ voices are heard, valued, and respected. She made the statement in a message on social media on the occasion of International Day of the Girl Child.
In her post, the First Lady said the day is a celebration of the courage, brilliance, and compassion of girls around the world. From leading change within their communities to standing strong in times of crisis, girls are the trailblazers that exemplify what resilience truly looks like, she said.
The First Lady further underscored the need for collective effort to ensure that girls have equitable opportunities where they can learn and contribute to their societies.
“We must all work together to ensure that the voices of our girls are heard and respected and they are provided with equitable opportunities where they can learn and contribute to their societies,” she said.
The International Day of the Girl Child is observed annually on 11 October, to draw attention to the challenges faced by girls and highlight the importance of working to protect their rights.
The theme of this year's Girl Child’s Day is "The Girl I Am, the Child I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis". The slogan highlights the importance of strengthening girls’ leadership qualities and investing in their well-being.
