President Muizzu Inaugurates Dialysis Service at Alifu Dhaalu Atoll Hospital

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has inaugurated dialysis service at Alifu Dhaalu Atoll Hospital.

The service was launched as part of the President’s ongoing tour of Alifu Dhaalu Atoll. During the visit, the President inaugurated the hospital’s Dialysis Unit, toured the facility, and met with staff members.

Kidney diseases remains one of the most common non-communicable diseases in the Maldives, with the government spending a significant amount each year to send patients abroad for treatment. To reduce this dependency, the government is working to expand access to kidney disease treatment within the Maldives. The number of patients requiring dialysis several times a week continues to rise.

As part of this expansion, 19 dialysis units have already been established across nine atolls, including the development of four new facilities and the enhancement of two existing centres. The atolls where dialysis services have yet to be established are Vaavu, Faafu and Dhaalu.
