President Discusses Mutual Cooperation in Trade, Climate Change with New Sri Lanka Envoy

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday discussed enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest with the new High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the island nation.

The new High Commissioner, Mohamed Rizvi Hassen, presented his Letters of Credence to the President at a ceremony held on Sunday afternoon at the President’s Office.

The High Commissioner was escorted from Republic Square to the President’s Office in a traditional cultural procession, Haiykolhu, accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.

The President accepted the Letters of Credence and formally welcomed High Commissioner Rizvi to the Maldives.

Following the ceremony, the President and the High Commissioner discussed areas of mutual interest, including trade, the economy, and climate change.

They underlined the importance of strengthening people-to-people connections and discussed ways to broaden cooperation, with the aim of further enhancing the close bilateral relations between the two nations.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka were established on 26 July 1965.
