MNU Partners with Soneva CSM to Strengthen Marine Studies in the Maldives

The Maldives National University (MNU) has signed an agreement with Soneva Conservation Sustainability Maldives (Soneva CSM) to strengthen cooperation and create opportunities in the field of marine research.

Soneva CSM is an association under Soneva Resort that focuses on environmental awareness and research in the field.

The agreement was signed by the Vice-Chancellor of MNU, Dr Aishath Shehenaz Adam, while Soneva CSM was represented by its Director of Conservation.

Speaking on the agreement, Dean of MNU’s College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, Dr Ahmed Riyaz Jauharee highlighted the importance of developing environmental studies, especially marine research, in the Maldives. He said that the collaboration with Soneva will further enhance the university's efforts to provide education and experience in this field.

"The MNU College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences equips students with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills in marine biology, oceanography and resource management. The programme with Soneva will be an important step in protecting the Maldives’ marine life,” he said.

Under the agreement between MNU and Soneva CSM, MNU students will have the opportunity to participate in CSM’s research projects and internships, gaining practical experience in coral reef ecology and marine conservation. The partnership will also facilitate collaboration in research in this field.
