The Baa Atoll Council, in collaboration with Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC), is set to host a historic attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous snorkelling event on 18 October 2025.
Branded as the Baani Event, the record attempt will bring together approximately 1,000 participants at Villingilifaru Finolhu in Baa Atoll, a pristine sandbank renowned for its turquoise lagoon, thriving reefs, and rich biodiversity.
Just ten minutes away from Eydhafushi, Villingilifaru Finolhu provides a striking backdrop for the milestone event. Its western lagoon and coral-filled outer reef are home to vibrant marine life, while the island’s shoreline hosts hundreds of Black-naped Terns, creating a rare and magical natural setting.
According to VMC, the Baani Event is more than a record-breaking endeavour. It is designed to celebrate and showcase the Maldives’ extraordinary marine environment, while promoting responsible tourism and environmental stewardship. By uniting participants in this shared experience, the initiative highlights the importance of protecting delicate ecosystems and celebrates the communities and individuals who sustain the Maldives’ tourism industry, the corporation said.
Registration for the Baani Event is now open. Participants and spectators alike are invited to join the gathering, explore one of Baa Atoll’s hidden gems, and witness a spectacular display of coordination, community spirit, and environmental awareness.
