President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s nominations for senior leadership roles within two independent commissions have received parliamentary endorsement, following committee evaluations and legislative votes on the proposed appointments to the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).
The nominations were tabled during an extraordinary sitting convened outside the legislature’s regular term. Each was referred to the relevant standing committee for procedural scrutiny.
In the case of the Civil Service Commission, Mohamed Mujthaz was nominated to serve as president, with Mohamed Nasih proposed for the vice president post. The Committee on Independent Institutions reviewed both candidates and confirmed their eligibility. Parliament subsequently voted to approve the appointments, with Mujthaz securing 68 votes in favour and Nasih receiving 64. Nasih, already serving on the commission, has now received parliamentary confirmation for the vice presidency, a role he previously held as president.
For the HRCM, Mohamed Shafeeg Mahmood was nominated to succeed Moomina Waheed as vice president, following the conclusion of her term earlier this year. His nomination was assessed by the Committee on Human Rights and Gender, which found him eligible for the role. The appointment was passed with 67 votes in favour.
