Media Fenda Dissolved Over Repeated Rule Breaches

The Media Fenda has been formally dissolved with effect from 14 September, following repeated non-compliance with established guidelines. The decision was announced in a press statement issued by the President’s Office.

Established on 29 May 2025 as part of the President’s Office, the Media Fenda was intended to strengthen engagement between the media and government institutions by providing journalists with timely access to information and facilitating coverage of events and news from the area. However, the statement noted that the facility had not, to date, been utilised in accordance with the prescribed regulations.

Under the guidelines, journalists nominated by local media outlets were granted Official Passes to access the Media Fenda. However, individuals without Official Passes gained entry while posing as journalists and repeatedly breached the rules. In addition, several accredited journalists raised concerns about difficulties in gathering news and information from the facility.

The statement further highlighted that continued violations of public safety regulations and disruptions to members of the public visiting government offices in the Green Zone were among the factors that led to the decision. It added that unauthorised entry, obstruction of news collection and violations of Green Zone regulations constituted breaches of specific provisions governing the use of the Media Fenda.

Despite its dissolution, the President’s Office reaffirmed that both the Office itself and other government institutions remain fully accessible to journalists for news coverage and events.
