President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has formally congratulated Anutin Charnvirakul on his election as Prime Minister of Thailand, expressing confidence in his leadership and a renewed commitment to advancing diplomatic cooperation.
In a statement issued by the President’s Office, President Muizzu described Prime Minister Charnvirakul’s premiership as the beginning of a new era of development and prosperity for Thailand and its people. He highlighted the Maldives’ intention to work closely with the new Thai government to reinforce the longstanding ties of friendship and mutual respect that have defined relations between the two nations.
The statement also outlined aspirations for expanded collaboration across multiple sectors, with a focus on joint initiatives and deeper engagement between the Maldivian and Thai populations.
Prime Minister Charnvirakul secured the premiership following a vote in Thailand’s 492-member legislative assembly on 5 September. He received 311 votes, surpassing the 247 required to assume office and establishing a clear mandate for his leadership.
His political career has been marked by senior roles in government, including terms as deputy prime minister, interior minister, and health minister. As head of the Bhumjaithai Party, Prime Minister Charnvirakul played a prominent role in Thailand’s pandemic response during the global outbreak of Covid-19.
President Muizzu concluded his message with personal wishes for Prime Minister Charnvirakul’s continued good health and happiness, and expressed hope for lasting peace and prosperity for the people of Thailand.
