RDC to Modernise Madifushi Roads in USD 5.4 Million Project

The state-owned Road Development Corporation (RDC) has been awarded a USD 5.4 million contract to design and build modern roads in Madifushi, Thaa Atoll.

The agreement, which has a completion deadline of 730 days, is part of the government's broader initiative to upgrade and modernise infrastructure on islands across the country.

The agreement was officially signed at a ceremony attended by state officials and RDC representatives. The Minister of State for Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Hassan Rasheed signed on behalf of the government, while RDC Managing Director Ibrahim Nazeem signed on behalf of the corporation with the constituency lawmaker Hassan Waheed and RDC Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Nabeeh Afeef also in attendance.

The project, which is being undertaken on a design and build basis, is valued at around USD 5.4 million and is expected to be completed within two years.

The government assured that the roads will be developed according to the specific needs of the island's residents.

This new project falls under the government's policy of prioritising road development in areas with high traffic and in places where the existing roads are in poor condition. The modernisation effort will also include the establishment of new irrigation and stormwater management systems to prevent flooding.

RDC has been entrusted with a growing number of road modernisation projects throughout the country, signaling the government's commitment to enhancing infrastructure for citizens on islands across the country.
