Environment Ministry on Monday contracted projects to upgrade waste management centres in 2 islands and build a waste management centre in 1 island.
The contract to upgrading of waste management centres in Meedhoo Island, Raa Atoll, and Kudarikilu Island, Baa Atoll, was awarded to I.S.F Construction Pvt. Ltd.
The upgrading work of waste management centres in these 2 islands would cost over MVR800,000, the Ministry said.
The new waste management centre to be built in Maamendhoo Island, Gaafu Dhaal Atoll, was awarded to Brohood Construction Pvt. Ltd.
According to Environment Ministry the new waste management centre in Maamendhoo would cost around MVR1.1 million.
Speaking at the contracts signing ceremony, Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Environment end Energy said the target is to complete all the projects by the end of the year.
All the islands of Huvadhoo Atoll will have waste management centres by the end of 2017, he added.
