Fisheries Ministry on Monday launched a Fisheries Information System titled “Keyolhu”.
The software was officially launched by Dr. Mohamed Shainee, Fisheries Minister and John Burton, Chairman of International Pole and Line Foundation (IPLF).
According to the Fisheries Ministry, the software enables companies to complete necessary paperwork for tuna exportation.

Speaking after launching the software, Dr. Shainee noted that the use of the software will speed up services provided to fishermen and exporters.
“The software will expedite issuing catch certificate to fishermen from 7 days to a few minutes,” and added that, “this is a step forward to the Government’s efforts to expand the market for local fishery products”.
Additional work related to further enhance the software is now underway, including the development of a mobile application, he added.

Speaking at the function, John Burton described the software as vital for the development of the fisheries sector in Maldives.
The software was developed with the assistance of IPLF and Maldives’ Marine Research Centre, with the support of some international companies that buy Maldivian fish exports including UK-based companies Sainsbury's and Marks and Spencer, and World Wise Foods.
