President's Visit to Noonu Underscores Decentralised Governance, Citizen Consultation, Cities Minister Says

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's recent visit to Noonu Atoll reaffirmed his administration's commitment to decentralised governance and the prioritisation of public input in national development efforts, Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar said.

Minister Adam Shareef, who accompanied the president on the tour, described the visit as a clear reflection of President Muizzu's dedication to governing in accordance with the people's wishes. In a statement issued via social media, he highlighted the president's readiness to revise plans initiated by government institutions in order to ensure their alignment with the aspirations of local communities.

"The arrangement, planning, and execution of government initiatives are being actively shaped by public demand," the minister noted. That emphasis on consultation, he said, extended beyond the immediate tour. "This experience provided additional impetus to prioritise, to an even greater extent, the concept of seeking public consultation and input when planning and implementing future government projects," he added.

He also expressed confidence in the longer-term impact of President Muizzu's leadership. “It is certain that, under the leadership of President Muizzu, both the decentralised system and the empowerment of citizens will see a significant increase," Minister Adam Shareef stated.

Throughout the visit, the president engaged directly with local stakeholders. He toured all inhabited islands within Noonu Atoll, convening discussions with island councils and women's development committees. The exchanges centred on community-driven development priorities, underscoring the administration's commitment to inclusive and responsive leadership.
