The High Commissioner of India to the Maldives, G. Balasubramanian paid a courtesy call on Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef at the President’s Office on Monday.
During the call, the Vice President and the High Commissioner reaffirmed the strong and enduring partnership between the Maldives and India, acknowledging the longstanding cooperation and highlighting the close ties shaped by shared interests and values, the President’s Office said.
They further underscored the importance of people-to-people connections as the foundation of the bilateral relationship, it added.
Concluding the call, the Vice President expressed the Government’s commitment to further engage meaningfully with the Government of India, prioritising the relationship through necessary arrangements that underscore understanding and respect in every aspect of interactions and actions.
The call precedes the upcoming State Visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, scheduled for 25–26 July.
During this visit, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Prime Minister Modi will hold high-level discussions on key bilateral and regional issues, followed by the inauguration of several joint projects and the exchange of a number of Memoranda of Understanding aimed at deepening cooperation across various sectors of mutual interest, the President’s Office had said.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit carries profound significance as it coincides with the 60th anniversary of the Maldives’ independence and the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and India.
