President attends military parade & cultural display

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on Sunday evening attended the military parade and cultural display held to celebrate the 51st Independence Day.

Upon his arrival at the National Football Stadium, the President was received by Ahmed Zuhoor, Minister of Home Affairs.

The President was offered a presidential salute, following which the combined brass band of the schools and the Maldives National Defence Force played the National Anthem.

The Armed Forces Guard then trooped past the Presidential Stand.

The schools which participated in the activities included Iskandhar School, Jamaluddin School, Kalaafaanu School, Thaajuddin School, Hiriya School, Ahmadhiyya International School, Imaduddin School, Majeedhiyya School and Dharumavantha School.

Attendees were additionally entertained by the V. Fulidhoo Bluestar Club’s cultural performance showcase and a performance by a 120-member traditional drum-and-dance troupe while renowned artists Raafiyath Rameeza, Hussain Hamdhoon, Anaana Mohamed, Laisha Junaid and Khadheeja Mohamed each dazzled with individual performances.
