Cardiac Centre successfully performs over 100 procedures

The National Cardiac Centre says it has successfully performed 100 procedures since its establishment a month ago.

The National Cardiac Centre of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) was opened on July 1. Since its establishment, the National Cardiac Centre has so far successfully performed 100 procedures.

The procedures, including angiograms and angioplasty procedures, were carried out by a team of specialists from Meditrina Hospital of India and IGMH.  The centre has also conducted its first primary angioplasty on July 17.

Speaking to PSM about the primary angioplasty procedure, Dr. Ali Shafeeg, Senior Consultant in Cardiology at IGMH, expressed content with the increase in public trust in the hospital’s capabilities and services, especially in conducting critical procedures. He also advised patients who underwent the procedures to do necessary follow-up examinations.

Dr Prathab Kumar, Consulting Cardiologist at IGMH, said the team has successfully performed 118 procedures at the cardiac centre, with the country’s first-ever pacemaker surgery procedure performed Sunday. He noted that the procedures were performed without any complications and that the centre would soon begin conducting open heart surgery.

According to IGMH, the centre provides 24 hour services, and patients can seek prompt services without any delays. The centre employs 2 cardiac doctors and a paediatric cardiac specialist.

According to the state-run hospital, on average 60 patients with cardiac complications seek consultations at the hospital on a daily basis. The hospital added that every week at least 3 patients seek treatment due to heart attacks and strokes.
