Environment Ministry on Saturday said it is undertaking a project to address the issue of waste management in Kulhudhuffushi Island, Haa Dhaalu Atoll.
According to the Ministry, the island is currently facing various problems due to lack of an appropriate waste management mechanism.
The Ministry said it is currently conducting a technical survey to determine how the problem could be resolved.
Kulhudhuffushi Island Council said the island’s dump yard is almost full, and its waste management capabilities are stretched to the limit.
The council also said it is making every effort to address the problem, and urged cooperation and support from residents.
The Ministry is currently working with the Island Council to set up a new dump yard.
