Fisheries Ministry on Tuesday said it had begun work to repair damaged Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) set up across the country.
Deputy Fisheries Minister Shazail Shiyam said work to repair 5 FADs are now ongoing.
He said 10 FADs set up in different locations across the country were damaged and in need of repairs.
The repaired FADs will be placed near A.Dh. Maamigili, L. Gan, G.A. Kolamaafushi and Dhehvadhoo, in addition to G.Dh. Thinadhoo Island.
Shazail told PSM News that the FAD near Gan Island has now been replaced.
He said work to repair the remaining 4 FAD’s will begin in 2 weeks.
According to the Fisheries Ministry, it is working to complete repair of the damaged FAD’s before the end of August.
