Nilandhoo Island Council of Gaaf Alif Atoll decided to lease land plots from the harbour area for commercial purposes.
Nilandhoo Island Council said it is working on formulating a land use plan for the newly reclaimed area in the island.
According to the council, in addition to leasing land plots for commercial purposes, the newly reclaimed area would also be utilised for other purposes.
It said cafes restaurants and retail shops will be developed under the land use plan.
Nilandhoo Council President Nasih Ibrahim said “we are currently awaiting approval from the Housing Ministry to draw up the plan”.
The council is also conducting landscaping and greening work in the reclaimed area.
It has also commenced a project to build a children’s park the area.
