The Supreme Court on Sunday struck down a High Court stay order that halted the implementation of the death penalty.
The High Court issued the interim injunction earlier Sunday following a petition filed by a civil society organisation, seeking to annul some sections of the guidelines on implementing the death penalty.
In its ruling overturning the High Court stay order, the apex court said there was no Constitutional basis to contest the guidelines on implementing the death penalty in any court of law.
The ruling also the High Court had violated the Constitution by deciding to hear the petition, and its injunction lacked any constitutional basis.
