President Muizzu Expresses Condolences Following Air India Crash, Affirms Solidarity with India

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has conveyed deep sorrow over the tragic crash of Air India flight AI 171 near Ahmedabad, India, expressing solidarity with the Indian government and people.

Air India flight AI 171, a Boeing 787-800 Dreamliner bound for London carrying at least 242 people on board, crashed shortly after take-off. The plane crashed into a medical college hostel in the Meghani Nagar area.

In a message shared on his official X account, President Dr Muizzu expressed profound sadness over the tragic crash. He stated that the government and people of the Maldives stand in solidarity with India during this difficult time.

Following the crash, Gujarat’s airspace has been closed, and operations at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport have been suspended.
