Hajj Corporation Chief Vows Continued Improvements in Maldives' Hajj Services

The Maldives Hajj Corporation has outlined its commitment to enhancing pilgrimage arrangements for Maldivian Hajj pilgrims in the coming years, as affirmed by its Managing Director, Mohamed Shakeel. In an exclusive interview with PSM News, Shakeel detailed recent advancements, highlighting the introduction of high-speed rail travel between Makkah and Madinah, a development attributed to the direct intervention of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

The corporation has hailed this year's pilgrimage as "the year with the most perfect Hajj arrangements in history". Pilgrims responded positively to the newly introduced high-speed train service, Shakeel stated, citing widespread satisfaction. The initial plan had called for bus travel between Makkah and Madinah; however, President Muizzu intervened in the final stages, instructing the corporation to secure a more efficient alternative.

"To ensure a smooth and convenient journey for pilgrims travelling from Makkah to Madinah, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu initiated the request, and we facilitated the arrangement for high-speed train travel. Therefore, on behalf of the pilgrims, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the president," Shakeel said.

The improvements extended beyond transportation. The introduction of the Makkah Route Initiative streamlined travel from the Maldives to Saudi Arabia, while designated tents for Maldivian pilgrims in Mina and Arafat provided spaces conducive to worship. Additionally, government-sponsored medical consultations and medication were made available, further easing the pilgrimage experience.

Shakeel reaffirmed the corporation's dedication to continuous improvement. He noted that this year's arrangements have established a "benchmark" for future pilgrimage efforts, setting a new standard for service quality. "God willing, our commitment and efforts will focus on exceeding the established benchmark and further enhancing the services provided," Shakeel remarked, underscoring the corporation's ongoing pursuit of higher standards.

Under President Muizzu's leadership, efforts to optimise pilgrimage logistics and services remain a priority, reflecting the administration's broader commitment to ensuring Maldivian pilgrims experience a seamless and comfortable journey.
