COSCAP South Asia holds steering committee meeting

Co-operative Development of Operational Safety and Continuing Airworthiness Programme - COSCAP South Asia on Wednesday commenced its 25th steering committee meeting in Paradise Island Resort, Maldives.

COSCAP South Asia, consisting of 7 countries in the region, is a programme which commenced in February 1998, and resultant of a cooperative agreement signed between the Civil Aviation Administrations of South Asian States of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, for the enhancement of safety, regularity and efficiency in civil aviation.

The activities of the programme are spearheaded by a high level Steering Committee which comprises the Heads of Civil Aviation Administrations of the Participating States and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) which is responsible for the execution of the programme in accordance with the Programme Document and decisions of the Steering Committee which meets at least once a year and is attended by members, partners, and Aeronautical Service Providers, aircraft and airport operators, on invitation.

The 3-day meeting was officially inaugurated by Deputy Tourism Minister Hussein Lirar.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lirar said that South Asia region has a fast developing aviation sector and that returns from the sector needs to be increased to further develop it.

Speaking at the event, representative of this year’s chair country of COSCAP, M. Sathiyavathi said that South Asia’s aviation sector is gaining momentum.

Aviation officials from 7 South Asia countries and representatives from funding partners are attending the meeting.
