Maldives Expo: Local Brands to Lead, Geared for Tourism Exports – Minister Saeed

The government is set to host Maldives Expo 2025 this month—an event Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed says will highlight local brands, some geared for tourism exports, while reinforcing the importance of domestic production in the tourism sector. Organised by the Business Center Corporation (BCC) in collaboration with various agencies and institutions, the expo will take place from 23 to 31 May at Central Park in Hulhumalé.

Minister Saeed underscored the significance of this year's event, describing it as markedly different from previous editions. Speaking to PSM News after reviewing preparations, he noted that the expo aims to demonstrate the productivity and skills of Maldivians while facilitating market access for local businesses.

"One of the key highlights of this year's expo is the introduction of distinct 'districts'. The event is set to be larger in scale and broader in scope, incorporating a diverse range of activities, including sports, entertainment, and the digital economy. Participation will span businesses of all sizes, from small enterprises to those engaged in the digital sector," said Minister Saeed.

Beyond its focus on local industry, the expo will also feature international representation, with Sri Lanka and India confirmed as participating nations. Minister Saeed highlighted the inclusion of a dedicated marketplace, designed to provide business owners with a platform to showcase their products to potential buyers and investors.

"In addition, the expo will welcome international representation from two foreign countries, with neighbouring Sri Lanka and India confirmed as participants. A dedicated marketplace will also be available, providing business owners with a platform to showcase their products," he added.

A key objective of the expo is to reinforce local manufacturing, particularly for goods required by the Maldivian tourism sector. Minister Saeed stated that the event will serve as a demonstration of the country's ability to produce essential items domestically while also highlighting products with export potential.

Preparations for Maldives Expo 2025, also referred to as the National Expo, are well underway. Minister Saeed recently visited the venue to assess progress ahead of the event's official opening.
