Bank of Maldives Plc (BML) on Tuesday launched BML MobilePay. The product was launched at a special function held at Champa Central Hotel in Male’ Tuesday night.
Bank of Maldives said the new MobilePay service would lead to faster check-out times at shops and allow customers to send money to friends and family easily.
Leading retailers and members of the technology community attended the event held at Champa Central Hotel to launch the new service.

According to BML, MobilePay uses cutting edge technology to facilitate payments by simply tapping smartphones on POS terminals and through the use of mobile phone numbers. BML added that person-to-person transactions can also be made through BML MobilePay.
It said all cardholders are eligible for this service which can be obtained by downloading the BML MobilePay app from the App Store or Google Play Store.

Commenting at the launch, BML CEO and MD Andrew Healy said that one year ago this month, BML launched the country’s first Mobile Banking App with the promise that it would make banking easier, and that it would give customers banking at their fingertips.
He said that BML have introduced an exciting new product that would make banking even easier. He further said, BML MobilePay would really make payments faster and easier at shop counters, in cafes, and sending money to family and friends.
Bank of Maldives was recently honoured by Capital Finance International with a prestigious award for the Most Innovative Banking Team in the Indian Ocean.
