Vice President Abdulla Jihad officially inaugurated ‘Southern Transport Link’ bus transportation service in Addu City and Fuvahmmulah on Friday.
The bus service was launched on Sunday in Fuvahmulah by Mid-Fuvahmulah MP Ali Fazad. The service, operated by Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), would be given using two 35-seat buses.
Speaking at a function held Sunday night to inaugurate the service, CEO of MPL Mohamed Junaid said the company plans to increase the number of vehicles used to provide the service, in addition to introducing school bus service.
He also revealed plans to acquire a modern ferry boat to provide ferry services between Fuvahmulah and Addu City, in addition to introducing a special ferry to transport food and other goods.
The function also featured a stage show, with performances from the Maldivian Idol participants.
