The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) is accelerating its project timeline, aiming to complete 99 percent of its portfolio by late 2028 as part of a broader effort to streamline national infrastructure development. The state-owned enterprise is managing more than 340 projects across the country.
Under directives from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, MTCC has prioritised the swift completion of ongoing initiatives. Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ahmed Saudee, a former Deputy Commissioner of Police, stated that the company is restructuring operations to boost efficiency, with personnel working intensively to ensure key projects meet their deadlines.
Among the undertakings benefiting from this approach, Saudee said, is the land reclamation project in Gulhi, Kaafu Atoll. Originally scheduled for completion in 2026, the work is now expected to conclude by September. Saudee described this as a key milestone in MTCC's broader strategy to accelerate infrastructure development.
If the company maintains its current pace, Saudee elaborated, nearly all projects are projected to be completed by the final quarter of 2028. MTCC employees are engaged in continuous operations, he added, ensuring that infrastructure projects entrusted to the company align with the administration's pledges to the public.
MTCC's expanding portfolio covers key sectors, including education and healthcare, while also incorporating stalled projects that had previously faced delays. In response to government directives, Saudee noted that teams have been mobilised across 11 islands to initiate 38 new projects.
Despite the scope of the workload, MTCC's leadership underscores its commitment to expediting infrastructure development that directly benefits communities nationwide. Saudee maintains that the company's accelerated approach will yield successful outcomes, reinforcing MTCC's mandate to deliver essential projects with efficiency and urgency.
