LGA agrees to assist EC in future elections

Local Government Authority (LGA) on Sunday agreed to assist the Elections Commission in future elections. The agreement confirming assistance from local councils across the country in the upcoming elections was signed today.

President of the Elections Commission Ahmed Suhail said that “with the assistance of local councils, it would make it easier for the Commission to conduct elections in the atolls”.

Regarding the introduction of e-voting in the coming elections, the Commission said manual vote counting will be conducted despite the use of e-voting. It said e-voting would only be utilised in the vote counting process, as a bid to gain public trust in the system.

The Local Council Elections are slated for January 2017.
