Government to Create Opportunities and Remove Barriers for All Industries

Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed has stated that the government will work to eliminate the barriers hindering the growth of key industries to bring about advancement for economic development. The Minister made the statement while addressing at the opening ceremony of the Build Expo organised by the Maldives National Association of Construction Industries.

The Build Expo is an event that brings together construction sector companies to provide information on the products and services provided by the companies under one roof. The expo was officially inaugurated by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade.

Speaking at the event, Minister Saeed said that a foreign investment policy should be formulated under the current Foreign Investment Act. Under the policy, the businesses that foreigners may engage in and businesses that can exclusively be conducted by Maldivians must be clearly defined, he stated, adding that the government has discussed determining these businesses with stakeholders, including discussions with the construction industry.

"Hopefully, we will soon be able to implement policies that are necessary for the construction industry, to advance the construction industry as an economic activity," he said.

This year's Build Expo is being held at Central Park in Hulhumale’, featuring 60 exhibitors from the Maldives and abroad. These include companies from India, Sri Lanka, Thailand and China. The four-day expo will be held from 24 to 27 April from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, and 8:00 to 10:00 pm.
