By investing in the education and empowerment of girls, we are investing in the future of the Maldives, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said Thursday.
In a message on social media to mark the International Girls in ICT Day, President Dr Muizzu said the country must celebrate the incredible potential of young women in technology.
The President also urged the whole country to strive to create an inclusive environment where every girl has access to quality education, can develop digital skills, and is empowered to lead our nation in innovation and digital transformation.
“By investing in the education and empowerment of girls, we are investing in the future of the Maldives,” he said.
The International Girls in ICT Day is observed annually on the fourth Thursday of April.
It is an annual initiative spearheaded by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to inspire and empower girls and young women to consider studies and careers in the growing Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) field.
This year’s theme, “Girls in ICT for inclusive digital transformation,” highlighted the critical need to bridge the gender gap in the tech sector.
President Dr Muizzu is spearheading a digital revolution in the Maldives, through the government's technology governance to enhance the ICT sector’s contribution to the Maldives’ productivity index. The initiatives aim to maximise the benefits of the digital economy, accelerate the country’s digital transformation journey, and bring revolutionary change to the ICT sector.
