Addu City Invites Bids for Meedhoo Land Plots to Accelerate Local Development

The Addu City Council has announced the opening of bids for 25 strategically located land plots in the Meedhoo district. Spanning areas between 1,000 and 12,310 square feet, these plots are envisioned to accommodate a diverse array of commercial and industrial ventures.

Eligibility for the tender is confined to registered individuals, companies, and partnerships, according to the council's official announcement. Prospective bidders are required to formalise their registration by 2 p.m. on 7 May, as detailed in the guidelines published in the Gazette notice.

Among the plots on offer are two 1,000-square-foot sites reserved specifically for swimming pool projects. Other plots are allocated to general commercial enterprises, including dining establishments, salons, service centres, and 6,900-square-foot sites identified for fuel storage facilities.

The council's allocation strategy also reflects a commitment to industrial growth. Five plots exceeding 4,500 square feet have been set aside for activities such as construction, carpentry, brick manufacturing, heavy vehicle rental, and warehousing. Larger industrial sites, measuring 10,000 and 12,000 square feet, are included in the offering. Additional land for a sports and recreational centre highlights efforts to enhance the district's social infrastructure.

Bidding submissions must be sent via email to [email protected], the council said, with documentation completed in accordance with the stated requirements. The process is scheduled to formally commence at 10 a.m. on 21 May.
