MNU to Tie Up With Waikato University to Develop Curriculum, Research

Maldives National University (MNU) is exploring collaboration with the University of Wakaito, New Zealand to develop a curriculum and enhance academic research.

Vice Chancellor of MNU, Dr Aishath Shehenaz Adam met with the senior leadership of the University of Waikato including Vice Chancellor Prof Neil Quigley and Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof Alister Jones during her private visit to New Zealand.

During the meeting, discussions centered around exploring avenues for collaboration and academic partnership, MNU said.

In that regard, discussions were held to facilitate PhD programmes for Maldivian students under the Maldivian government’s loan assistance, developing curriculum to build people in specialised fields, running student and staff exchange programs, as well as collaborative research.

The provision of supervisors by the University of Waikato for MNU’s PhD programmes was also part of the discussions, MNU said.

The discussions will result in an agreement between the two universities which will be signed in the near future, MNU added.

According to MNU, the collaboration will further enhance Maldives’ education sector along with new opportunities for local students and university staff.

The Vice Chancellor, Dr Shehenaz is an alumni of Waikato University.
