The number of dengue cases reported across the country has been decreasing, Health Protection Agency (HPA) says.
According to statistics published by HPA regarding the prevalence of dengue in the country, the number of cases reported between July 3 and 9 dropped to 67, compared to an average of 106 cases reported per week during May. The country sees a spike in the mosquito-borne disease every year during the rainy season.
The number of dengue cases has been decreasing in the past three weeks, HPA said. The highest number of cases reported this year were between May 15 and 21, it added.
The agency further said that even though the number of cases has been decreasing across the country, there are still islands and areas with high prevalence.
Over the past 14 days, there have been 32 confirmed cases of dengue across the country with 11 of these cases reported in Hulhumale’ and 12 cases reported in Isdhoo Island, Laamu Atoll. Meanwhile, authorities are conducting programmes to eradicate mosquito breeding sites in islands with high numbers of dengue cases.
