Maldives’ first international health conference commences

Maldives commenced its first international healthcare workers conference today.

The conference titled “the Evidence-Based Health Seminar” commenced Wednesday morning in Bandos Island Resort.

The conference, which is an initiative of 5 senior nurses at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), is aimed at improving the quality and delivery of health services by exchanging information, knowledge and experiences with other countries.

160 representatives, including 100 representatives from local healthcare facilities and 60 foreign experts, are participating in the 2-day conference.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the conference, Minister of Youth and Sports Iruthisham Adam acknowledged the important role nurses play in the delivery of healthcare, and highlighted the fact that 5 senior nurses organised an international conference to further improve health services in the country.

Chairperson of the conference, Dr. Fathimath Shifaza said that priority will be given to submitting research papers and securing training opportunities for local doctors and nurses.
