There are over 40 major international airlines currently operating flights to the Maldives, Ministry of Tourism and Environment figures have shown.
According to the Ministry’s Tourism Update of 3 April, there are a total 44 international airlines flying to the globally renowned holiday destination, which includes major airlines from Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
The update also showed that a total of 647,677 tourists have holidayed in the Maldives as of 2 April, which is a 5.2 percent increase from the same period last year.
As expected the majority of tourists had spent their holidays in tourist resorts with 69.4 percent followed by guest houses in second with 25.2 percent. The remaining 5.4 percent of tourist arrivals were shared between city hotels and tourist vessels.
According to the Ministry, there are 1,201 tourist accommodations in the country with a total 65,561 bed capacity out of which 97.3 percent are in operation.
China continues to dominate as the number one tourist source market for the Maldives with 11.6 percent of total arrivals during this period. Russia is in second with 68,375 tourists which is 10.6 percent of arrivals.
