ITFF will benefit Maldives film industry, organiser says

Sun Hotels and Resorts said on Tuesday that the ongoing International Tourism Film Festival, ITFF will have a positive effect on the country’s film industry.

The hotel group said the festival has opened up opportunities for Maldivian filmmakers to submit their productions to other international film festivals.

Over 200 films from some 20 countries, including the Maldives, are submitted to the festival, which is being be held at Sun Siyam Irufushi.

This is the first time the country is hosting an international film festival.

Business Development Director at the Sun Group Evgenia Boyankova said ITFF is already proving to be a success. Citing the number of local films submitted to the festival, she said they hope for a better participation from the local film industry in the future editions of the festival. She further said opportunities were received through the festival, to submit Maldivian films to three international film festivals held in other countries.

The organiser said awards will be conferred at the festival in 10 categories.

It says the festival titled “Following the Equator” will combine professionals, celebrities and guests from all over the world to share their passion of travelling and seeing the beauty of it.

During its 3-day run, ITFF will feature an array of nightly special events, including orange carpet premieres, gala celebrations, filmmaker receptions, compelling filmmaker Q&As, international spotlights, industry seminars and musical performances.
